Business overview

The Group operates solely in the hamburger restaurant business and announced its Medium-Term Management Plan for fiscal 2025 through fiscal 2027 in February 2025. Through the strengthening and expansion of its community-based franchise business, the Group aims to achieve sustained growth in sales and improve restaurant profitability, thereby realizing sustainable growth rooted in local communities. Its financial targets are system-wide sales growth of 4–6% per year on average, operating profit growth of 4–6% per year on average, an operating margin of 13%, and ROE of at least 11%. During the interim consolidated accounting period, the Group continued to listen to customer feedback and work to improve QSC and convenience, while investing in marketing, restaurants and human resources. As a result, system-wide sales increased year on year. Same-store sales increased for 43 consecutive quarters, from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015 through the second quarter of fiscal 2026. In terms of profit, operating profit increased year on year, reflecting higher system-wide sales and more efficient restaurant operations, among other factors. In light of results during the interim consolidated accounting period, the Group also revised its full-year earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending December 2026. The main points regarding progress under the Medium-Term Management Plan are as follows. - Menu and value: The Group offers appealing menu items throughout the day and sells limited-time products. To deliver value exceeding the price paid, it continued to invest in restaurants, QSC and marketing promotions. In February 2026, it revised prices, refreshed popular products and launched the 「トクニナルド」 campaign, a value-focused promotional campaign. From June, as an official sponsor and official restaurant of FIFA World Cup 26, it is creating opportunities for customers to enjoy the excitement of FIFA World Cup 26 outside the stadiums as well. - Restaurant portfolio and digital: Alongside promoting new restaurant development, the Group closed restaurants with insufficient capacity and advanced digital adoption to improve convenience. Over the three years from 2025 through 2027, it aims to achieve a net increase of at least 100 restaurants and remodel at least 1,000 restaurants, while optimizing its portfolio. During the interim consolidated accounting period, it opened 35 new restaurants, closed 22 restaurants and remodeled 189 restaurants. Digital initiatives continued to progress steadily, expanding the digital membership base, including My McDonald's Rewards, increasing sales through digital channels and deepening connections with customers. - Sustainability and people: The Group focuses on four areas: consideration for the global environment, safe and delicious meals, creating a rewarding workplace, and supporting local communities. To achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, it is expanding the areas in which corporate PPAs are introduced. It completed the introduction of strawless lids for beverages and the transition to straws made from 100% biomass-derived materials. The transition to environmentally friendly bags has been completed at almost all restaurants. Electricity consumption has been reduced through air-conditioning upgrades at restaurants. In supporting employees and promoting work-style reform, the Group was selected as a Nadeshiko Brand in March 2026 and fully introduced in April 「カムバっ!クルー」, a spot-work platform exclusively for former crew members. With approximately 220,000 current crew members and approximately 3 million cumulative former crew members, the Group places importance on engagement with its human capital. As a result of these initiatives, same-store sales increased 5.9%, system-wide sales rose to ¥464.3 billion, up year on year, revenue rose to ¥204.0 billion, also up year on year, operating profit increased to ¥30.2 billion, ordinary profit increased to ¥30.8 billion, and interim net income attributable to owners of the parent increased to ¥19.6 billion.
