「We adopted the “Accounting Standard for Revenue Recognition” (Accounting Standards Board of Japan Statement No. 29, 31 March 2020; the “Revenue Recognition Standard”) and related standards from the beginning of the first quarter of the current fiscal year, recognizing revenue at the amount expected to be received in exchange for promised goods or services when control of those goods or services transfers to the customer. As a result, franchise fees under contracts with domestic franchisees, which were previously recognized at a point in time, are now recognized over a specified period as performance obligations are satisfied. In addition, for loyalty-point programs operated by other companies, the amount equivalent to points awarded at the time of product sales, previously recorded as selling, general and administrative expenses, is now deducted from the transaction price when revenue is recognized.」
The Revenue Recognition Standard was adopted from the beginning of the first quarter of fiscal 2022, changing franchise-fee recognition to recognition over the period in which performance obligations are satisfied and deducting point amounts from transaction price when recognizing revenue.
