Business overview

During the interim accounting period, the Company operated primarily in two business segments: the Shoes Business and the Real Estate Business. The Shoes Business comprises women's shoes, men's shoes, rubber footwear, sneakers and other categories, and handles a diverse range of products, including licensed brands and private-label products. Although sales in the Shoes Business declined year on year, overall sales exceeded the prior-year period due to the recognition of sales from the disposal of real estate held for sale and other items in the Real Estate Business. Gross profit was below the prior-year period because the weaker yen increased the cost of sales in the Shoes Business. Ordinary income (loss) and interim net income (loss) were affected by a decline in non-operating income, a valuation loss on crypto assets and the recognition of special investigation expenses, resulting in an ordinary loss and an interim net loss. However, they exceeded the prior-year period due to the recognition of a reversal of the provision for directors' retirement benefits as extraordinary income.
