Business overview

The Kura Sushi group operates conveyor-belt sushi chains in Japan and overseas and is expanding its network primarily through company-operated restaurants. As of the end of April 2026, it had 699 company-operated restaurants, including 5 Muten Kura restaurants, 1 Kura Osakana Market restaurant, 84 in the United States and 62 in Asia. During the period, it opened 12 new restaurants: 5 in Japan, 5 in the United States and 2 in Asia. On 28 May 2026, President Kunihiko Tanaka was selected as Japan's representative for the global EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year 2026 awards. Effective 1 May 2026, the company carried out a 2-for-1 stock split of its common shares. Following the split, the total number of issued shares was 82,799,200 and the total number of authorized shares was 320,000,000. The articles of incorporation were amended in connection with the split effective 1 May 2026. In Japan, inbound demand is growing, particularly in central urban areas, while some regions continue to experience declining real wages. Raw material prices and labor costs also remain elevated. The company's proprietary conveyor-belt entertainment system, Bikkura-Pon!, has remained popular since its introduction in 2000. KURA Osakana Farm Co., Ltd. is pursuing an AI-enabled smart aquaculture initiative to grow larger mackerel, and began limited-time, limited-store sales of large fresh mackerel on 15 May 2026. The group also operates through overseas subsidiaries in the United States and Asia. In North America, Kura Sushi USA, Inc. (KSU) conducts collaboration campaigns. In Asia, the group operates through 亞洲藏壽司股份有限公司 (KSA). For the first half of fiscal 2026, combined results for Japan, North America and Asia were revenue of ¥125,253 million, ordinary profit of ¥2,917 million and interim net income attributable to owners of the parent of ¥1,835 million. Interim consolidated assets were ¥164,369 million, liabilities were ¥74,743 million and net assets were ¥89,626 million. Cash and cash equivalents at the end of the period stood at ¥21,302 million. The impact of the stock split effective 1 May 2026 on per-share information is disclosed separately.
