Business overview

The Group’s principal business is the manufacture and sale of steel products, operated as a single Steel segment. Production is centered on 4 domestic plants—Tahara, Okayama, Kyushu and Utsunomiya—with a focus on upgrading the value of electric-furnace steel products. Since June 2024, the Group has pursued product strategies including the low-CO2 steel brand “Hobo Zero.” In June 2025, it decided to invest approximately ¥10 billion to modify the plating line at the Okayama Plant, with operations scheduled to start in early fiscal 2027. As Japan’s largest electric-furnace steelmaker, the Group is promoting the manufacture and sale of electric-furnace steel products centered on H-beams and hot-rolled coils. Its supply chain uses steel scrap as the principal raw material, and expanding the supply of decarbonized, circular steel products is a core strategic priority.
