This three-part video series provides an overview of the key points of the recommendations published by the Liberal Democratic Party, as well as KPMG’s recommendations and expected developments in response, from the perspective of conducting strategic reviews during business as usual.
In July 2026, the Liberal Democratic Party published its “Recommendations for Governance Reform to Sustain Growth in Corporate Value.” The recommendations call not only for a review of the corporate law framework, including shareholder proposal rights, but also for companies to strengthen their management capabilities in order to achieve medium- to long-term growth. Going forward, relevant government ministries and agencies are expected to advance the development of related frameworks and consider measures to support companies’ initiatives.
During the preparation of the recommendations, KPMG AZSA LLC’s Advisory Division was interviewed by the Liberal Democratic Party’s Research Commission on Justice System, Growth-Oriented Corporate Governance Project Team. From the perspective of strengthening companies’ management capabilities, it recommended the importance of conducting strategic reviews during business as usual. The recommendations highlight the need for boards of directors and other bodies to establish, implement, review and revise strategies aimed at enhancing corporate value over the medium to long term.
This three-part video series provides an overview of the key points of the recommendations and expected developments, while explaining the approach to strategic reviews that companies should undertake during business as usual as part of strengthening their management capabilities, as well as the key points for using these reviews in practice to drive the cycle of enhancing corporate value.
