Cocofump Residence Setagaya Tsurumaki has won the 2026 Good Design Award, organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. The award was jointly given to the facility and its developer, JR西日本プロパティーズ株式会社.
The facility operates as housing for older people with support services. Its operator is Gakken Cocofump, a group company of Gakken Holdings.
The award recognized the facility for creating an environment where local residents and occupants can interact and support one another across generations while preserving the memory, design elements and materials of the religious order that formerly occupied the site. Initiatives to promote interaction with local residents, children and volunteer organizations were also recognized.
The judging panel praised the theme of preserving the memory of the land and the creation of diverse interactions in housing for older people. It noted that the combination of architecture with a restrained sense of scale and the programs offered creates a synergistic effect. The Good Design Award was established in 1957, and the G Mark is used as its symbol.
