一建設株式会社 won 2 awards in the 2026 Good Design Award, organised by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion: the wooden housing structural wall “Braced Structural Wall HW5.0Σ Designed Around Its Failure Mode” and the “Presis Karuizawa” condominium development. The first award was in the residential building methods and construction systems category, and the second was in the medium- to large-scale condominium category.
HW5.0Σ obtained ministerial certification on 17 June 2025 and became the first structural wall to meet a wall multiplier of 5.0. Its design was recognised for incorporating a “crushable zone” that concentrates the failure of mature structural members in the centre rather than allowing a K-shaped failure during an earthquake, thereby limiting damage to the main structural frame. The use of a system that facilitates inspection and repairs after an earthquake was also cited as a feature.
The Presis Karuizawa condominium development is designed to regenerate the natural environment and promote coexistence between people and nature. It includes approximately 200 newly planted trees, large openings that bring light to the site and residential units, and views of Mount Asama. It was recognised for its careful response to the surrounding environment and site characteristics, as well as its emphasis on balancing long-term asset value with costs.
一建設 says it will continue to provide new value to society through housing, and these initiatives have been cited as the reasons for the company’s design award wins.
