The Group of 20 countries and regions (G20), including Japan, the United States and Europe, will hold a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. Against a backdrop of high prices and persistently elevated oil prices, the participants will discuss measures to address challenges facing the global economy and the importance of exchange-rate stability.
A meeting of the Group of Seven advanced economies (G7) will also be held at the same time. BOJ Governor Ueda Kazuo (植田和男) is scheduled to attend from Japan, while Finance Minister Katayama Satsuki (片山さつき) is making arrangements to attend despite being affected by the status of parliamentary deliberations on the tax-cut bill.
Concerns over high prices are growing, and long-term interest rates in various countries are also trending higher. Attention is focused on the direction of monetary policy, including the risk of pressure on public finances and the outlook for interest-rate hikes by central banks.
