Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy Kiuchi Minoru (城内 実) said reports that he had referred to requesting a postponement of the vote to stop the BOJ from raising interest rates were untrue. Following a Bloomberg report, Kiuchi Minoru (城内 実) denied the claim that he had referred to stopping a BOJ rate hike and requesting a postponement of the vote, saying, “There is absolutely no such fact.” He made the remarks at a press conference after a Cabinet meeting.
The article said that Mainichi Shimbun had reported that, before the June Monetary Policy Meeting, Kiuchi Minoru (城内 実) had discussed stopping a BOJ rate hike and requesting a postponement of the vote with a senior official at the Cabinet Office. It also presented his explanation emphasising the legitimacy of his attendance.
Kiuchi Minoru (城内 実) explained that he had attended almost every Monetary Policy Meeting since taking office. While showing his close attention to monetary policy, he said he regretted wording suggesting undue pressure on the BOJ.
At an event held in Tokyo on the 15th, Kiuchi Minoru (城内 実) said that Japan's economy was at the stage of emerging from deflation, and made remarks reflecting his position as a reflationist and his support for proactive fiscal policy. He did not mention reappointment in the Cabinet reshuffle.
