Nestlé Japan has unveiled the coffee brand product NESCAFÉ GOLD BLEND Barista kotone. Fukazawa Naoto (深澤直人) designed the machine, while teamLab developed its dedicated app, bringing the new product to life through co-creation with external partners.
Nestlé Japan announced its new product, NESCAFÉ GOLD BLEND Barista kotone (コトネ), on 25 August. Fukazawa Naoto (深澤直人) handled the design, while teamLab developed the dedicated app. The product was created through co-creation with external partners and aims to deliver a new coffee experience beyond the limits of previous models.
kotone is scheduled to go on sale on 1 October 2026. Measuring approximately 10.8 cm wide, 35.0 cm high and 30.7 cm deep, it has a slimmer profile than previous models. The coffee tank can be replaced, allowing users to brew a different variety of coffee without using up their existing supply of grounds. The machine also reportedly produces quieter brewing sounds. It will be priced at ¥22,000 including tax, while the coffee tank will be priced at ¥3,300 including tax and go on sale the same day.
The design moves away from the rounded look of previous models in favour of a more linear form. The NESCAFÉ app will launch alongside kotone, enabling users to operate the machine and adjust coffee strength. The app also features characters known as “partners,” with an element in which the user’s lifestyle changes depending on how they drink their coffee.
Yoshinaga Yuta (吉永祐太) said that limiting discussions to the company could have led to rigid thinking, and expressed a willingness to continue working with external partners through co-creation. The company emphasised its aim of creating new value by incorporating outside perspectives.
