The US market is awaiting the CPI release and bank earnings reports, while ASML has also been reported to have raised its earnings forecast. Anthropic is scheduled to disclose its third-quarter revenue figures for the first time.
Investors saw US stock futures mostly higher in the morning session, with Dow futures and S&P 500 futures posting modest gains while Nasdaq 100 futures were almost flat. Citigroup and other major banks were due to report earnings before the open, while ASML was reported to have raised its full-year forecast. Anthropic was also reported to be preparing to release new revenue figures.
The market’s focus is expected to be on the release of the US Consumer Price Index, or CPI. The September year-on-year increase is forecast at 3.6%, with core CPI expected at 2.5% and the month-on-month increase at approximately 0.6%. Alternative-data providers have pointed to the possibility of a widening gap between headline and core CPI.
Wall Street bank earnings reports are expected to continue, with results from the largest US banks marking the start of the earnings season. Concerns about slower trading activity at JPMorgan Chase and weaker-than-expected fixed-income trading revenue at Goldman Sachs were also highlighted.
ASML is expanding production capacity to meet demand from 2024 onward. Its full-year sales outlook was raised from €43 billion–€45 billion to €44 billion–€45 billion, while gross margin is also expected to improve to approximately 56%. Anthropic, the company behind Claude, is scheduled to release its third-quarter financial results, which could affect the financial reporting of other companies and broader market trends.
