We have switched all electricity used at the Okayama Plant under Chugoku Electric Power's CO2-free power option and launched an initiative aimed at achieving near-zero CO2 emissions from 1 November 2026.
SUMITOMO HEAVY INDUSTRIES,LTD. has switched the electricity purchased for its Okayama Plant to CO2-free electricity. The switch is based on the CO2-free power option provided by Chugoku Electric Power and will reduce CO2 emissions associated with electricity use in combination with solar power generation.
The CO2-free power option is a tariff plan under which Chugoku Electric Power combines the electricity it procures with non-fossil certificates to make it effectively CO2-free. As a result of the switch, CO2 emissions from the plant are expected to be effectively zero.
The switch began on 1 November 2026. Annual CO2 emissions are expected to be reduced by approximately 4,103 tonnes, or approximately 5,209 tonnes when combined with the approximately 1,106-tonne reduction from solar power generation. This represents approximately 4.4% of the group's Scope 2 emissions.
The initiative is being implemented as part of the group's efforts to reduce CO2 emissions, and the group plans to continue promoting energy conservation and the use of renewable energy.
