Canal City Fukuoka Washington Hotel, adjacent to Canal City Hakata, has fully reopened after renovation. Its design is based on the “Theater of the City” concept, incorporating 5 motifs—water, valleys, greenery, sun and stars—throughout the hotel and guest rooms.
Canal City Fukuoka Washington Hotel reopened on 1 September 2026 after 5 months of closure and renovation. Conveniently located approximately 10 minutes on foot from Hakata Station and approximately 3 minutes on foot from Kushida Shrine Station, it is positioned as a base for domestic and international business and leisure travelers.
The renovation design follows Canal City Hakata's “Theater of the City” concept, incorporating 5 motifs—water, valleys, greenery, sun and stars—throughout the hotel and guest rooms. The lobby features art representing the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival and wood-based materials, creating spaces where guests can experience the area's local liveliness and warmth.
All 422 rooms have been refreshed with a new design, with renovation scheduled for completion at the end of November. The rooms feature spaces incorporating the motifs, and new rooms for 4 guests with bunk beds have been added. Self-service check-in and check-out machines, a guest-only self-service cloakroom and card-key elevator security have been introduced to strengthen contactless procedures and security.
Breakfast is served buffet-style at the hotel's first-floor restaurant Bonjour Plus. New menu items drawing on Kyushu and Hakata food culture include motsunabe, mentaiko, Kirishima black pork shabu-shabu and conger eel tempura. The address is 1-2-20 Sumiyoshi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Access is approximately 10 minutes from JR Hakata Station and approximately 3 minutes from Kushida Shrine Station, and the hotel has 422 guest rooms.
