As the chill in Japan–China relations continues one year after Prime Minister Takaichi (高市) made remarks about a Taiwan contingency, the number of Japanese companies expanding into China has declined, while performances by Japanese artists in Shanghai have fallen to zero. Meanwhile, Chiikawa, a popular character in China, continues to attract attention.
A report says that tensions remain in Japan–China relations one year after Prime Minister Takaichi (高市) made remarks concerning a Taiwan contingency. Developments in China include a decline in the number of Japanese companies expanding into the Chinese market.
According to a survey by Teikoku Databank, the number of Japanese companies operating in China stood at 11,118, down approximately 22% from 2 years ago. The impact on Japanese companies’ local operations is believed to remain substantial.
Changes are also emerging in China’s events business, which has focused on performances by Japanese artists. Beijing Pia has been forced to respond by expanding into fields other than performances by Japanese artists. In Shanghai, the number of performances, which had reached approximately 200 a year, is now reportedly zero.
