News concerning next-generation energy from Japan. Fuji Electric has invested in fusion startup Helical Fusion and formed a capital and business alliance with the company, announcing that the development of technology aimed at commercial power generation in the 2030s will move into full swing.
Fuji Electric and Helical Fusion formally announced that they had formed a capital and business alliance. Fuji Electric will participate as an official partner in the Helix Project promoted by Helical Fusion and will consider the development of an integrated demonstration device and business development.
Helical Fusion aims to commercialize fusion power plants in the 2030s using the helical method, which has been researched in Japan for many years. Fusion power generation requires the development of technologies that meet requirements including steady-state operation and maintainability.
Fuji Electric entered into a supply agreement with Helical Fusion in 2025 for power supply equipment for high-temperature superconducting magnets. Through the new alliance, it will also participate in the development of Helix HARUKA technology and the consideration of Helix KANATA, which is positioned as the first fusion power generation unit.
