Nuclear fusion venture Helical Fusion has entered into a capital and business alliance with Fuji Electric and aims to commercialise the Helix Plan. It also raised ¥3.23 billion in Series B funding.
Helical Fusion, which aims to commercialise fusion power generation, announced that it entered into a capital and business alliance with Fuji Electric on 8 October 2026. Fuji Electric will participate as an official partner of Helical Fusion. Helical Fusion also raised ¥3.23 billion in Series B funding. The Helix Plan calls for the phased construction of the final demonstration facility and the development of practical power generation.
With commercial power generation in the 2030s in view, the Helix Plan aims to complete individual demonstrations of high-temperature superconducting magnets and blankets that also serve as divertors during the 2020s, followed by integrated demonstrations of Helix HARUKA and the world's first practical power generation using Helix KANATA during the 2030s. Helix HARUKA is currently being manufactured and constructed on the grounds of the National Institute for Fusion Science in Gifu, with more than 30 domestic companies and others cooperating in its development.
Fuji Electric entered into an agreement in 2025 to supply Helical Fusion with power supplies for high-temperature superconducting magnets. It possesses technologies required for fusion power-generation systems, including power electronics, turbines and generators, monitoring and control systems, and fuel-handling equipment and radiation-measurement devices. The companies plan to advance technology development through their collaboration.
