ZIPAIR is working with BlueWX and MTI to use AI turbulence forecasts in flight operations. It is developing an in-flight communications environment using Starlink, allowing turbulence risk during flight to be checked in the cockpit.
ZIPAIR announced a system developed in collaboration with BlueWX, which provides AI turbulence forecasts, and MTI, which operates the 3DARVI aviation weather system, enabling turbulence risk to be assessed during flight operations. The system uses deep-learning-based AI forecasts that differ from conventional indicators, allowing risks by flight altitude and time to be checked together.
ZIPAIR has established a high-speed in-flight communications environment using Starlink and had also been using it for passenger internet connectivity since February this year. Installation on all 8 Boeing 787-8 aircraft was completed in May.
3DARVI displays weather information and flight plans on the same screen and uses 3D visualisation to show hazardous weather phenomena. It supports flight operations managers in selecting routes and determining altitudes, while pilots in the cockpit can also check risks along the flight route. Development has progressed through collaboration with ANA and JAXA, among others, and its potential applications are expanding.
