Dell Technologies held an inaugural press conference for Jon Robottom, the new president of its Japanese subsidiary, providing details on the current state of and challenges facing AI adoption by Japanese companies, as well as the value Dell provides and its growth strategy. Robottom said he had extensive practical experience in the Japanese market and that the business was changing toward an integrated model covering everything from building data centers to run AI through security, data management and analysis.
According to the results of the Modern Enterprise Readiness Study 2026, conducted worldwide, the proportion of Japanese companies moving beyond the initial stage of AI adoption into the mid-to-late stages rose from 35% in 2025 to 58% in 2026. The top 3 use cases were data analysis and decision support, security and threat detection, and IT automation and infrastructure operations, indicating a growing movement to position AI at the core of management decision-making and risk management.
However, challenges remain in terms of generating results. Data on digital transformation trends from the IPA shows that while AI is improving operational efficiency, very few companies feel it has had a direct effect on areas such as sales and profit growth, with the figure remaining at about 4%. One cited reason is that people still need to check and correct processes created by AI, making it necessary to ensure Trusted AI. The 3 barriers identified were ensuring Trusted AI, a shortage of talent and insufficient execution infrastructure.
To address these challenges, Dell provides end-to-end integrated solutions. At the core, the Dell AI Factory covers the process from AI testing through deployment and scaling, integrating data infrastructure, software and services. Dell has also established an executive briefing and solution center for management teams, creating a structure that enables the rapid sharing of AI visions and the implementation of proof-of-concept tests.
