Seven projects, primarily by DAIWA HOUSE INDUSTRY CO.,LTD., won Good Design Awards organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. The winning categories included “medium- to large-scale multi-unit housing,” “landscape, civil engineering and architecture,” and “community contribution facilities,” among others. The winning companies were primarily DAIWA HOUSE INDUSTRY CO.,LTD., along with its affiliated companies.
The winning projects included the condominium developments “Premist Shirakabe,” “Premist Kyoto Matsugasaki,” “Premist Okurayama,” and “Wafu Gashin Hanazono.” Their designs incorporated the urban landscapes, history, and culture of cities including Kyoto and Nagoya, which was recognized in the judging. Other projects highlighted included landscape and community contribution facilities such as “SHINONO-BA” within DPL Tokyo Shinonome, as well as projects incorporating crafts, including “Initia Kyoto Goshominami” and “Initia Chofu Station Site.”
The judges cited the coexistence of historic landscape preservation and modernity, the high quality of the living environment achieved through street and courtyard design, and collaboration with local communities and crafts in their assessment comments. Overseas projects, including “Wafu Gashin Hanazono” in Suzhou, China, were also included, with the balance between design universality and regional character serving as a key basis for the awards.
The awards are positioned as recognition of the importance placed on collaboration with local communities and neighborhoods, environmental considerations, and high standards of livability.
