At an IMF event held in Washington, D.C., BOJ Governor Ueda Kazuo (植田 和男) explained that he expects underlying inflation to remain around 2%. He added that he recognizes the risk of inflation rising above the 2% level and said it would be necessary to maintain this level for many years through appropriate monetary policy adjustments.
In a discussion with IMF Managing Director Georgieva (ゲオルギエワ), Ueda Kazuo (植田 和男) expressed the view that prices and wages are currently rising consistently with each other, while also saying that it remains unclear whether this equilibrium will continue for a long time. He indicated that 2% inflation cannot be said to have become established as a social norm.
The comments may be interpreted as providing insight into the BOJ’s policy management, while potentially drawing market attention to future price trends and the direction of monetary policy.
