Takeshima Aquarium in Gamagori, Aichi, will hold the joint exhibition “Is That Hook Stuck in You Okay?” on the theme of regenerative medicine from 10 October to 8 November. The exhibition will also include a workshop where participants conduct planarian amputation experiments and take the specimens home for observation.
Takeshima Aquarium in Gamagori and Japan Tissue Engineering (J-TEC) will hold the joint exhibition “Is That Hook Stuck in You Okay?” to promote regional revitalization through collaboration among local companies. Focusing on regenerative medicine and the regenerative abilities of living organisms, the exhibition will explain the mechanisms of regeneration through displays and commentary.
The exhibits will include regenerative organisms, explanations of the body’s healing mechanisms, an introduction to regenerative medicine and displays featuring original characters as guides. The venue is scheduled to feature scorpionfish, Mexican salamanders and planarians.
As a special event, “The Mysterious Planarian Chop-Chop ★ Observation Session” will be held on 24 and 25 October. It will include an explanation of planarian biology and a demonstration of an amputation experiment, allowing participants to take home the planarians after amputation and observe their regeneration. The participation fee is ¥500, with the first 8 people accepted for each session. Preschool children must be accompanied by a guardian.
The exhibition is organized by J-TEC and Takeshima Aquarium, and comments from their representatives indicate an intention to promote local collaboration and regenerative medicine.
Against the backdrop of Gamagori’s deep-sea fish landings and the aquarium’s exhibition record, the initiative is positioned as an effort to link local industry with learning opportunities.
