Roland Corporation has pursued its growth strategy through its strong overseas sales base, leadership in the MIDI standard and technological innovations such as V-LINK. Its expansion of cloud-based businesses and new product development through collaboration with DW are key features, alongside efforts to strengthen its sales network through initiatives such as opening company-operated stores.
Roland Corporation is a comprehensive electronic musical instrument manufacturer with a broad product lineup. Overseas sales are said to account for approximately 90% of total sales, and the company operates globally, focusing on musical instrument retailers in countries around the world while pursuing a sales strategy that includes company-operated stores and shop-in-shop locations.
Since the 1980s, the company has expanded the scope of musical expression and contributed to market growth through the joint development of the MIDI standard and the development of its successor standard, V-LINK. In 1997, it launched the V-Drums TD-10K, the world's first electronic drum equipped with mesh heads, and has continued developing innovative products.
Following the 2008 global financial crisis, the company undertook a business restructuring, delisting in 2014 through an MBO and relisting in December 2020. In 2024, Minowa Masahiro (蓑輪雅弘) became representative director, president and CEO, taking charge of management as the company's seventh president.
As it strengthens manufacturing and development, the company acquired DW in 2022. Through joint development, it launched the DWe convertible drum and is promoting a new category that supports both acoustic and electronic applications. It is also expanding the Roland Platform centered on Roland Cloud.
