HORIBA, Ltd. developed a new system capable of evaluating CO2 adsorption and desorption on a single unit, which the Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth (RITE) will adopt. Full-scale operations will begin in November, with commercialization planned for the future.
HORIBA, Ltd. developed a CO2 adsorption/desorption evaluation system capable of evaluating the performance and durability of adsorbents and separation membranes used for carbon dioxide separation and capture on a single unit. The system is scheduled to be adopted by RITE, which will serve as Japan's first such facility, and is expected to become a platform for future testing and evaluation.
RITE in Kizugawa, Kyoto Prefecture, has been identified as the system's installation site, where it will evaluate the performance of adsorbents and separation membranes targeting CO2 in combustion exhaust gas. RITE will use the system to conduct evaluation work.
HORIBA, Ltd. has disclosed plans to begin full-scale operation of the system in November and indicated its intention to pursue commercialization going forward. Wider adoption of the system could improve the efficiency of evaluating CO2 separation and capture technologies.
As Japan develops an evaluation platform for CO2 capture technologies, the system's installation is expected to help promote future research and development. With commercialization in view, HORIBA, Ltd. is expected to step up efforts toward commercial deployment.
