An IR interview with FRUTA FRUTA INC., whose business is based on agroforestry, highlighted its business strategy and growth policy. The interview introduced the company's business development as a pioneer in acai, underpinned by its commitment to natural capitalism, as well as its plans for a new matching platform.
The company operates a business model centered on the import, processing and sale of natural fruits, primarily acai, with agroforestry in the Brazilian Amazon as its foundation. Its corporate philosophy is “Living in harmony with nature,” and it positions natural capitalism as the core of a new economic model for its business. Its representative, Nagasawa Makoto (長澤誠), explains the turning point in its business strategy and its future growth policy.
The company has built a strong relationship with CAMTA, a local agricultural cooperative, and its strengths include securing exclusive sales rights in Japan and sales rights in Asia. It positions as a key feature of its business model the ability to make agroforestry viable as agriculture while balancing environmental conservation with income security for agricultural workers.
Acai has strengthened the company's brand as a hit product. The company has focused on pioneering imports into Japan and communicating the product's value, developing products with a priority on being natural, fresh, delicious and authentic, while also advancing functional research in collaboration with academic institutions. It aims to use acai as a vehicle for communicating the value of agroforestry as a whole.
As part of its growth strategy, the company is promoting the expansion of the acai market and strengthening its B2B raw-material wholesale business. The market is worth approximately ¥10 billion in Japan, while the Asian market is expected to reach approximately ¥150 billion by 2036. The company plans to balance efforts to communicate the value of agroforestry with a stable supply of raw materials, securing ongoing procurement by major manufacturers.
The company is also working to build a sustainable matching platform and has outlined plans to expand a global raw-material supply network, using international events such as COP30, scheduled for November 2025, as an impetus. It has also indicated a policy of introducing a CO2-reduction mark and strengthening traceability and the visualization of environmental impacts.
