Qol Holdings resolved at its board meeting on 30 September to acquire shares in メディカメンテ and MY, which operate community-based dispensing pharmacies, and bring the companies into its group. The two target companies operate 15 stores through メディカメンテ, mainly in Miyagi Prefecture, and 2 stores through MY in Yamagata Prefecture. The share transfer is scheduled for 22 October.
The Qol Group operates approximately 950 pharmacies nationwide and is expanding its business through new store openings and M&A. The two companies to be acquired are working to maintain and support local primary-care pharmacies and community healthcare, and are expected to pursue collaboration by leveraging resources within the group, including personnel exchanges and ICT.
As consolidation in the pharmacy industry progresses, some expect major chains to step up efforts to bring community pharmacies into their groups. Through this announcement, the Qol Group will strengthen its framework for supporting community-based pharmacies with group resources.
