The touch-enabled, OLED-equipped MacBook Pro announced on the 29th Japan time enhances the display and peripheral features compared with the standard Pro with the same chip configuration. The 14-inch model is priced at ¥499,800 and the 16-inch model at ¥599,800 in Japan, with sales beginning on 6 November.
The announcement covers display configuration, lighter weight and touch functionality added to the standard Pro models with the same M5 Pro/M5 Max chips. Two MacBook Pro models with PROLED XDR displays, in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, have been introduced, and it has been confirmed that they retain the existing “MacBook Pro” name.
Japanese pricing is ¥499,800 for the 14-inch model and ¥599,800 for the 16-inch model, around ¥70,000 more than the standard Pro with the same configuration. Compared with US pricing, this corresponds to a premium of about $400 for the same configuration, but the price difference is larger in the Japanese market.
Key specifications include two-layer OLED (tandem OLED), up to 2,000 nits outdoors, touch input, Dynamic Island and a glowing rear-logo design. The core chip and battery life are the same as those of the standard Pro. The redesigned hinge is intended to improve stability during touch operation, but Face ID is not included; Dynamic Island replaces the notch.
Pre-orders began immediately after the announcement, with sales scheduled to begin on 6 November. Mini-LED models are expected to remain available alongside the new models. Overseas media have discussed a glowing rear logo, but it is not specified in the official materials, so confirmation on the actual devices is still pending.
