Google officially announced 4 models: the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The company held an event in New York at 7:00 a.m. Japan time on 13 August, with preorders beginning at 11:00 p.m. the previous day. All 4 models go on sale on 20 August. The company-operated Google Store Omotesando also opened on 13 August. Prices start at ¥136,800 for the Pixel 11 and reach ¥279,900 for the Pro Fold.
In terms of design and durability, the base Pixel 11’s camera bar is approximately 40% thinner, and the camera bar has been changed to an all-black design covered entirely in glass. The Pro Fold is approximately 10% thinner when folded and approximately 10% lighter, while its back uses a new glass-fiber composite material to improve durability.
A new feature called HiLight illuminates the area around the rear flash to provide visual notification alerts. Some models, including the Pro Fold, have had their temperature sensors removed. Other features include improved night photography, a teleprompter for video and 4K portrait video, in addition to HiLight.
The camera system is designed to fundamentally change the photography experience. Key features include a new 48-megapixel wide-angle sensor, improved telephoto-sensor performance, automatic selection of the best shots through Magic Capture, camera looks compatible with Photographic Styles and the addition of Creator Suite.
Overall, the focus is on improving usability through a combination of a thinner and lighter design and new features, rather than on major hardware innovation. The series is attracting attention as it is compared with Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone and the direction of its next-generation models.
