The new Toyohashi-Shinshiro Smart Interchange (SIC) on the Tomei Expressway will connect Toyohashi and Shinshiro and is scheduled to open in spring 2027. It will fill a 17.8-km gap between interchanges, with access limited to ETC-equipped vehicles, helping ease traffic and shorten emergency transport times.
NEXCO Central Japan announced the expected opening of the new Toyohashi-Shinshiro Smart Interchange (SIC) on the Tomei Expressway, which is scheduled to open in spring 2027. The SIC will straddle the boundaries of Toyohashi and Shinshiro and connect to Aichi Prefectural Route 81, Bessho Kaido. This is expected to fill the 17.8-km gap between the two cities.
The section around Shinshiro PA had been inconvenient because it lacked an SIC. The new SIC is expected to improve access from National Route 301. It will be accessible only to ETC-equipped vehicles, and improved access to nearby industrial parks is also anticipated.
The SIC’s opening is expected to make it easier to visit nearby tourist attractions, golf courses and the area’s specialty Jiro persimmons, improving convenience for tourism. In addition, medical transport times within Shinshiro could potentially be reduced by up to 12 minutes, which is expected to improve survival rates.
