The Japanese government has certified Namura Shipbuilding Co.,Ltd.'s supply security plan as the first plan under the Shipbuilding Industry Revitalisation Fund, established to strengthen shipbuilding capacity, making it eligible for subsidies of up to approximately ¥49.9 billion. The plan involves the company and its Group company 函館どつく, and covers facilities based in Imari City.
The subsidy period runs from fiscal 2026 through fiscal 2034, and the funds are expected to be used for capital investment and other measures aimed at fundamentally strengthening shipbuilding capacity. The government intends to use the fund to secure the supply of components designated as specified critical materials.
Shipbuilding volume in Japan is currently trending downward, and concerns have been raised that maintaining the supply chain and ensuring stable supplies could affect the economy and daily life. This certification is one of 3 nationwide, while a total of 8 plans, including those under the second round, have been certified.
Namura Shipbuilding Co.,Ltd. says it will use the subsidies to improve productivity and increase employment, contributing to the local economy.
