A delegation from the Japan Association for Promotion of International Trade, led by its chairman, former Foreign Minister Iwaya Takuya (岩屋 毅), arrived in Beijing, China, on the 27th. The delegation is seeking a meeting with the Xi Jinping administration, and attention is focused on whether the visit will provide an opportunity to restore Japan-China relations.
About 50 executives and others from Japanese companies are taking part in the delegation, which is scheduled to remain through the 30th. The visit was originally planned for June but was postponed after former chairman and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Kōno Yōhei (河野 洋平) died shortly beforehand.
In the past, JAPIT held repeated talks with China's leadership and played a role in Japan-China diplomacy. This visit is also positioned as part of efforts to improve Japan-China relations.
