A delegation of about 50 people from the Japan Association for Promotion of International Trade, chaired by former Foreign Minister Iwaya of the Liberal Democratic Party, arrived in Beijing, China, on the 27th. Those arriving at Beijing Capital International Airport included Iwaya, acting chair Hashimoto Gaku, former senior vice-minister of health, labour and welfare, and executives of Japanese companies.
The delegation is scheduled to stay in Beijing for 4 days and will seek meetings with senior Chinese government officials. Japan-China relations have cooled since Prime Minister Takaichi’s remarks on a Taiwan contingency last November, and the association hopes to find an opening for improving relations through economic exchange.
The visit is positioned as part of efforts to improve Japan-China relations, with economic cooperation and people-to-people exchange expected to be the main focus.
