Resona Holdings announced a capital and business alliance with JCB and will acquire approximately 2.24% of the shares from existing shareholders for ¥8 billion. The companies also plan to expand their cooperation into areas including stablecoins.
Resona Holdings (HD) announced that it would enter into a capital and business alliance with JCB and plans to acquire approximately 2.24% of the shares from existing shareholders for ¥8 billion. The purchase is expected to proceed around mid-November.
The shares and percentage to be acquired represent part of the JCB shares held by Resona HD and relate to the fact that its subsidiaries Resona Card and Minato Bank already hold a combined 3.03% of JCB's shares. As part of plans to strengthen cooperation, the companies will expand their existing corporate partnerships in payments and also pursue opportunities in areas such as stablecoins.
The two companies have previously collaborated on payment demonstrations using stablecoins and on points services, and are said to intend to broaden their cooperation following the capital alliance. Potential new areas of collaboration include strengthening the payments infrastructure and deepening links between services.
The move is positioned as part of an effort by Resona HD and JCB to improve customer convenience by strengthening financial infrastructure. Formal details regarding the acquisition price and timing will be disclosed at a later date.
