Senko Kisen, a subsidiary of Senko Group Holdings, conducted a demonstration test of B24 biofuel on the Sentai-maru. It blended A heavy fuel oil with high-purity biofuel and confirmed onboard supply procedures and operating conditions.
Senko Group Holdings announced that its group company Senko Kisen conducted a fuel-supply demonstration using B24 biofuel on the chemical tanker Sentai-maru, which it operates. The test was conducted jointly by Taiyo Oil and Kanemori Oil to confirm onboard blending and fuel-supply procedures, as well as operating conditions on an actual vessel.
The test used 7.6 kiloliters of A heavy fuel oil and 2.4 kiloliters of B100 high-purity biofuel to prepare a total of 10 kiloliters of B24. B100 accounted for 24% by volume. A heavy fuel oil was supplied at Taiyo Oil’s Shikoku facility on 3 October, after which the vessel sailed to Osaka. On 4 October, the barge Koko-maru was moored alongside the Sentai-maru, B100 was transferred and the fuel was circulated and blended in the tank.
The demonstration was conducted from 4 to 6 October. No abnormalities were observed in the engine or other equipment during the trial run after blending, and the Sentai-maru continued safe and stable operations thereafter.
