Tesla has launched the new Model 3 and Model Y in Japan with V2L support. It also plans to launch a new CHAdeMO fast-charging adapter, expanding charging options at home and on the road.
On 23 October 2026, Tesla launched the new Model 3 and Model Y, featuring several specification changes, through Tesla Stores nationwide and its official website. Both models support V2L, allowing electricity stored in the vehicle to power household appliances. Tesla also announced a new CHAdeMO fast-charging adapter.
The Charging Support Program for buyers will be offered to the first 5,000 vehicles, with support of up to ¥264,000. After combining this support with the government’s CEV subsidy, the net out-of-pocket cost will be in the range of approximately ¥3.779 million for the Model 3 and ¥4.229 million for the Model Y.
The new V2L-compatible models have already been introduced in South Korea and China, making this the first launch in Japan. The power supply adapter (V2L) is priced at ¥15,000 and is scheduled to launch in January 2027. It is compatible only with the new Model 3, new Model Y and Model Y L, a total of 3 models; previous-generation models are not eligible.
The CHAdeMO fast-charging adapter is priced at ¥95,900 and is scheduled to launch in January 2027. It is compatible with approximately 14,000 fast chargers, expanding charging options when used together with Japan’s domestic Supercharger network.
In terms of specifications, the Model 3 offers a maximum WLTC range of 757 km and the Model Y up to 682 km, along with improvements to in-car entertainment and cabin quietness.
