Tesla has announced a V2L power adapter. Compatible vehicles include the new Model 3 and new Model Y, as well as the Model Y L. The adapter will launch in January 2027 at a price of ¥15,000.
Tesla has announced a new V2L power adapter, explaining that it can supply power to household appliances simply by plugging it into the vehicle’s charging port. The 3 compatible models are the new Model 3, new Model Y and Model Y L. The adapter is scheduled to launch in January 2027 at a price of ¥15,000.
The V2L adapter is rated at 100V, 20A and 50Hz, matching the voltage and current of a household outlet. Based on a simple calculation, it is expected to power appliances with a maximum load of approximately 2,000W. Integration with the vehicle’s touchscreen and the Tesla app is also provided.
Potential uses include lighting and electric kettles during power outages, as well as hot plates and electric blankets while camping. The Model Y L’s battery capacity is said to be equivalent to approximately 8 days of electricity use by an average household, and capable of charging a smartphone more than approximately 4,000 times.
The Model 3 and Model Y sold to date are not compatible with the adapter, according to Tesla. As specifications for the Japanese market vary by country, attention is focused on future developments.
