Google has announced the screen-equipped tracker “Google Fitbit Edge” and begun accepting pre-orders in Japan. Priced at ¥26,800, it will begin shipping on the 27th, and its design supports battery replacement.
Google announced its new fitness tracker “Google Fitbit Edge” on 12 October local time in the United States. Pre-orders in Japan are being accepted through the Google Store. The price is ¥26,800, with shipping beginning on the 27th. The US price is $179.99, and purchasers receive a 3-month free trial of Google Health Premium.
Fitbit Edge is positioned between the Pixel Watch smartwatch and the screenless “Google Fitbit Air” tracker. It features a recycled-aluminum case and measures 11.58mm thick and weighs 17.7g (excluding the band). Its Hybrid OLED display is among the largest and brightest, and is approximately 40% larger than that of the previous model.
The device supports more than 50 exercise modes and has built-in GPS, enabling outdoor workout tracking without a smartphone. Location-tracking accuracy has improved by up to 40% compared with the previous model. It also includes an altimeter and automatic detection for up to 100 activities. Health management features include Health Guardian, although the Japan store says support will be available soon. Battery life is up to 7 days. A 5-minute fast charge provides a day's use, and more than 90% of the battery can be charged in 90 minutes.
The side button has been redesigned, and the device uses an interface based on the Pixel Watch 5. It is water-resistant to 5ATM and meets the IP68 dust- and water-resistance standard. Internally, it uses a modular design that allows the battery to be replaced. Four colors are available: Obsidian, Fog, Olive and Canyon. An Active band is also available separately. Supported operating systems are Android 11 or later and iOS 16.4 or later. A Google account and the Google Health app are required. Fitbit Edge is intended for users aged 13 and over, while Health Premium is limited to users aged 18 and over. An update to the Google Health app will further expand automatic detection to more than 100 activities. Detection accuracy is expected to be approximately twice that of the previous model, while missed recordings are expected to be reduced by more than half.
