Google has announced the Fitbit Edge, a new-generation fitness tracker with an ultra-thin design and large display. It combines an everyday-friendly style with advanced health features.
The announcement introduces the next-generation wearable Google Fitbit Edge, which combines an intelligent coaching experience linked to Google Health Coach with a refined, slim body and an easy-to-read display. It is described as occupying the middle ground between the multifunctionality of a smartwatch and the convenience of a simple fitness tracker.
The display has a larger viewing area than previous models and uses a vivid Hybrid OLED display that remains easy to read in direct sunlight. Tiles and watch faces support quick access to information, while a redesigned physical side button improves usability. The device is 11.5mm thick and designed to fit comfortably on the wrist.
The tracker features a new workout screen and real-time guidance, along with more than 50 exercise modes. GPS tracking accuracy has improved by up to 40% compared with previous models, and elevation-change measurements using the built-in altimeter have also been enhanced. Automatic activity tracking can recognize up to 100 types of workout.
Health monitoring has been expanded through features including Health Guardian, irregular heart-rate notifications newly supported in Japan, and overnight analysis using a skin-temperature sensor. The optical heart-rate sensor and integration with the Google ECG app help visualize everyday health conditions.
