OKAMURA CORPORATION has introduced a system that enables inventory and stockouts to be managed daily using common metrics from management to the shop floor. Using the Dr.Sum data platform and MotionBoard BI dashboard, the company can monitor delivery date responses and stockout conditions on a single screen.
OKAMURA CORPORATION manufactures steel furniture. Against a backdrop of significant fluctuations in demand, it built a system that visualizes production status using company-wide common data to optimize inventory and improve supply reliability. WingArc1st Inc., which provided the Dr.Sum data analytics platform and MotionBoard BI dashboard, announced the initiative.
The dashboard was developed to coincide with the completion of a new factory at the Tsukuba site in August 2023. As the use of data became more widespread in day-to-day operations, the system was rolled out to other domestic production sites from December of the same year. In June 2024, the company began building a system that would enable data to be monitored using common metrics for company-wide decision-making.
Products were classified into categories including regularly stocked items, stocked items and made-to-order items, with several hundred regularly stocked items designated for priority management. The schedule management metrics dashboard went live in October 2024. Data on inventory, orders and production plans is aggregated in Dr.Sum and visualized in MotionBoard.
The schedule management metrics are currently distributed to registered users twice a day, in the morning and afternoon. When signs of a stockout emerge, the production team takes action to prevent stockouts of regularly stocked items. Dashboards are also displayed on large screens in internal passageways, creating an environment where employees can notice day-to-day changes.
