Okamura introduces “MotionBoard” and “Dr.Sum” for company-wide supply chain management, strengthening production capabilities by improving its data-driven response to demand fluctuations

Okamura established a system that enables production conditions to be visualized using common data from management to frontline operations, and announced plans to improve its understanding and optimization of inventory, orders and production conditions in response to data-driven demand fluctuations. MotionBoard was introduced in August 2023, and the use of dashboards to manage production volume and production progress at each site, as well as staff work hours, had expanded.

Following the implementation, Okamura established a system for monitoring inventory management conditions using company-wide common metrics, including Finance and frontline operations. The schedule-management metrics dashboard on MotionBoard consolidates delivery-date responses, inventory, stockouts and lead times on a single screen, and the practice of distributing the dashboard twice a day, first thing in the morning and at 2 p.m., became established. The product-inventory search dashboard enabled the sales division to access inventory information immediately, broadening the range of proposals available for short delivery-time needs.

Under Medium-Term Management Plan 2028, Okamura has announced plans to transform itself into a demand-creation company and accelerate inventory reduction and optimization of its production structure. Going forward, it will consider using data to support decision-making and action, beyond simply visualizing data, by incorporating equipment operating logs and IoT data through an MES.

The initiative described in this case is scheduled to be presented at UpdataNOW26 in Nagoya. An Okamura representative commented that expanding visualization based on company-wide common metrics and consolidating data in Dr.Sum have enabled the head office and individual sites to monitor the same metrics.
