NHK has begun full-scale operations at the news center, radio center and other facilities in the Information Building newly constructed at its Broadcasting Center in Shibuya, Tokyo. Broadcasting and distribution using the new news studios began this morning.
The Information Building is part of Phase I of the Broadcasting Center redevelopment plan. Following its completion at the end of October 2024, NHK plans to progressively bring the production, broadcasting and distribution of international services and some programs into full-scale operation after the broadcasting facilities have been installed. In addition to broadcasting and distribution functions, the building contains studios designed to produce a wide range of content and will serve as a hub for news coverage and information dissemination in Japan and overseas.
NHK said it would continue broadcasting and distribution without interruption during major disasters, including an earthquake directly beneath the Tokyo metropolitan area, and fulfill its mission as public media dedicated to protecting viewers' lives and livelihoods. The Information Building is equipped with seismic isolation and backup power generation facilities. Going forward, programs including “Good Morning Japan,” “NHK News 7” and “News Watch 9” are scheduled to be broadcast from the Information Building.
