NHK has begun full-scale operations at the new Information Building within its Broadcasting Center in Shibuya, Tokyo, equipped with the News Center and other broadcasting and streaming functions. The facilities will be moved from the former site in stages, while disaster preparedness facilities have also been installed to improve the continuity of broadcasting during disasters.
Full-scale operations at the News Center and Radio Center in the newly constructed Information Building at NHK's Broadcasting Center in Shibuya, Tokyo, began today. Broadcasting and streaming using the new news studios also began this morning, marking the fruition of the first phase of the rebuilding project to address the aging Broadcasting Center.
The Information Building will handle broadcasting and streaming for news and information programs, as well as international broadcasting, with functions scheduled to be moved from the existing facilities in stages. Studios capable of producing a diverse range of content have also been established, creating a new hub for news reporting and information dissemination nationwide and overseas.
From a disaster preparedness and mitigation perspective, the building features a base-isolated structure and in-house power generation facilities, ensuring that broadcasting and streaming can continue without interruption during major disasters, including an earthquake directly beneath Tokyo. The facilities will help protect viewers' lives and livelihoods.
Programs scheduled to be produced and broadcast include "Good Morning Japan," "NHK News 7" and "News Watch 9," as well as "Asaichi" and "Close-Up Gendai."
