NHK began full-scale operations of the News Center and other broadcasting functions at the Information Building in Shibuya, Tokyo, broadcasting and streaming the morning programme “Good Morning Japan” and others from the new studios. The broadcaster plans to gradually expand production and streaming of international broadcasts and some other programmes by September.
NHK began full-scale operations of the News Center, Radio Center and other facilities at the newly built Information Building at its Shibuya Broadcasting Center on 9 August 2026, while broadcasting and streaming from the new studios also began that morning.
The Information Building is the first-phase facility in the redevelopment of the Broadcasting Center due to the aging of the existing facilities, and was completed in October 2024. Following the installation of equipment ahead of the launch of operations, NHK plans to gradually bring international broadcasting and programmes other than news into full-scale operation.
Going forward, programmes including “Good Morning Japan” and “NHK News 7” will be broadcast and streamed from the new studios. The building is also equipped with a base-isolated structure and on-site power generation facilities, serving as a disaster-response hub that can maintain broadcasting and streaming during disasters.
NHK plans to gradually launch full-scale production, broadcasting and streaming operations for international broadcasts and programmes other than news through September, while also strengthening its overseas reporting and information-distribution capabilities.
