Kioxia Holdings and its collaboration partner SanDisk have announced plans to invest approximately ¥5 trillion in total by 2032. They plan to build a third fabrication building at the Kitakami plant in Kitakami, Iwate Prefecture, with a funding plan that includes government subsidies, and aim to begin operations during fiscal 2029.
Kioxia Holdings and SanDisk disclosed plans for total investment of approximately ¥5 trillion by 2032. In addition to building a third fabrication building at the Kitakami plant, they presented a funding plan based on support from the Japanese government.
The two companies are expected to invest approximately ¥1.8 trillion in total, with roughly one-third of the funding expected to come from government subsidies. They aim to begin operations during fiscal 2029.
The Kitakami plant currently mass-produces eighth-generation NAND flash memory and began shipping samples of its tenth-generation products in July. Site preparation is underway south of the second fabrication building for construction of the third, enabling the plant to address medium- to long-term increases in demand with a three-building configuration.
President Ota Hiroo (太田裕雄) expressed the intention to pursue expanded investment and growth while receiving government support, and indicated that the Kitakami plant would become a core production line for cutting-edge devices. The companies expect to expand the development and production of next-generation memory semiconductors in Japan with government support.
