The TSE Growth Index fell for a fourth consecutive day as stocks came under selling pressure amid the U.S. midterm election. Losses eased in the afternoon, but trading remained nervous.
Today, both the TSE Growth Market Index and the Growth Market 250 Index fell for a fourth consecutive day, with decliners continuing to outnumber advancers. The TSE Growth Market Index was 972.02 pt, down 6.81, with trading volume of 588.92 million shares and trading value of ¥231.4 billion. The Growth Market 250 Index was 769.27 pt, down 4.43, with trading volume of 537.39 million shares and trading value of ¥213.4 billion.
In the U.S. market, the Dow was little changed, while long-term U.S. Treasury yields remained firm, affecting Japanese stocks. In the Tokyo market, as updates on the U.S. midterm election vote count emerged, growing caution over post-election policy management pushed stock prices lower.
Selling led in the morning, but firm movements in Dow futures and declines in crude oil futures supported Japanese stocks in the afternoon, with losses narrowing at times overall. Among individual stocks, some came under selling pressure on news of new share issuances and secondary offerings, while others rose on earnings revisions and announcements of share buybacks.
