ESPEC CORP. and TÜV SÜD Japan will launch a one-stop service from testing through certification in November 2026, based on NITE's Safety Guidelines for Battery Energy Storage Systems for Public Procurement and Critical Infrastructure.
To enhance the safety and reliability of battery energy storage systems, ESPEC CORP. is collaborating with TÜV SÜD Japan, a global third-party testing and certification body, to launch a new contract testing service aligned with the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE)'s Safety Guidelines for Battery Energy Storage Systems for Public Procurement and Critical Infrastructure. The service will provide an integrated process from testing through certification, and is intended to assess conformity with the five safety requirements specified in the guidelines: resistance to seismic wave shock, resistance to fire spread, resistance to rainwater immersion, resistance to saltwater immersion, and drop resistance.
The initiative responds to safety challenges arising from the growing adoption of battery energy storage systems as social infrastructure. ESPEC CORP. has testing equipment for the battery sector and has established a framework capable of conducting tests accredited by public bodies at five locations in Utsunomiya, Tokoname, Toyota, Kariya and Kobe. The company is moving ahead with the provision of services aligned with the NITE guidelines.
TÜV SÜD Japan, a domestic conformity assessment body (CAB), will be able to verify the reliability of test results conforming to NITE standards, and is developing risk assessment and conformity assessment services for battery energy storage systems (BESS) globally. This release announces that the two companies will collaborate to integrate their testing equipment and operational expertise and establish a system for providing an end-to-end service through the issuance of certificates of conformity by a certification body.
ESPEC CORP. operates contract testing services at five locations across Japan, and its laboratories are accredited by the Japan Accreditation Board (JAB) for conformity with ISO/IEC 17025. By using facilities powered by electricity from renewable energy sources, the company also contributes to reducing CO2 emissions across customers' supply chains. TÜV SÜD Japan, based at its headquarters in Shibuya, Tokyo, provides services in Japan and overseas to support improvements in the safety and reliability of BESS.
