SANKYO has contracted with Daigas Energy to install solar power generation at its Sanwa Plant in Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture. The company aims to cover approximately 30% of the plant's electricity consumption with renewable energy and reduce CO2 emissions.
SANKYO has entered into a contract for “D-Solar” with Daigas Energy, a subsidiary of Osaka Gas, and installed a solar power generation system at its Sanwa Plant in Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture. The system has a generating capacity of 495 kW and is expected to supply approximately 30% of the plant's electricity consumption from renewable energy.
The installation is expected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by approximately 180 tonnes. Daigas Energy will purchase surplus electricity, while some of the environmental value associated with the power generation will be certified as green power certificates and used at SANKYO's facilities in Tokyo.
The contract runs for 20 years from October this year, and the arrangement requires no upfront investment. The project uses subsidies under Tokyo's program to promote the installation of local-consumption renewable energy and energy-storage facilities. The program also supports initiatives that use in Tokyo the environmental value of renewable energy facilities installed outside the capital.
