“Money Bridge,” the account-linking service offered by Rakuten Bank and Rakuten Securities, will support minor accounts. Accounts held by individuals aged 0–17 will be eligible to use the sweep function and other services, and the service will also support Children's NISA, scheduled to launch in January 2027.
Rakuten Bank and Rakuten Securities will expand their account-linking service, “Money Bridge,” to minor accounts. The service will be available for accounts held in the names of minors aged 0–17, who will be able to use preferential ordinary deposit rates and automated deposits and withdrawals of funds through the sweep function. The expansion is scheduled to begin on the 25th, and use will be free.
With Money Bridge's sweep function, funds are automatically deposited from the balance of a Rakuten Bank account when funds are insufficient at Rakuten Securities. Funds held at Rakuten Securities are also automatically withdrawn each business night and deposited into a Rakuten Bank ordinary deposit account. For minor accounts, eligible products include Japanese equities, US equities, investment trusts, bonds, Raku Wrap, IPOs/POs, and gold, silver and platinum.
The preferential rate on ordinary deposits in minor accounts applies for 1 month beginning in the month concerned if setup is completed at the start of the month. The rate is currently 0.48% on balances up to ¥10 million and 0.42% on the excess, but will be raised to 0.58% and 0.52%, respectively, from 2 November. Both are variable rates before tax.
A cash giveaway campaign commemorating support for minor accounts is also planned. Entry, Money Bridge registration and a deposit into a Rakuten Bank account will be required. Money Bridge began in April 2011, and the number of configured accounts exceeded 7 million as of August 2026. Rakuten Securities began accepting applications to open Children's NISA accounts on 1 October.
