Rakuten Bank and Rakuten Securities announced a policy to extend their Money Bridge account-linking service to minor accounts. The sweep function for automatic deposits and withdrawals will become available for accounts held by 0- to 17-year-olds, including Child NISA accounts, which is expected to reduce the effort required to transfer funds.
Rakuten Bank announced a policy to expand its planned support for minor accounts under Money Bridge, disclosed as scheduled for 25 October 2026, to include accounts held by people under 18, including Child NISA accounts. This will make preferential interest rates on ordinary deposits and automatic deposits and withdrawals between Rakuten Bank and Rakuten Securities available for accounts held in a minor’s name. Child NISA is a NISA accumulation investment allowance for people aged 0 to 17, scheduled to begin in January 2027, and the announcement says that using Money Bridge will make asset building more convenient.
A launch anniversary campaign for minor accounts is planned to award ¥2,000 in cash for registering for the campaign, registering for Money Bridge and depositing funds into a Rakuten Bank account. The preferential rates apply subject to the settings being completed as of the end of the preceding month. The annual rates are 0.48% for ordinary deposit balances of ¥10 million or less and 0.42% for balances above ¥10 million, and are scheduled to rise to 0.58% and 0.52%, respectively, from 2 November.
Sweep-eligible products include cash transactions in Japanese equities, odd-lot shares, yen settlement for US equities, yen settlement for investment trusts and bonds, Rakuten Wrap, IPOs and POs, and gold, silver and platinum transactions. Rakuten Securities will begin accepting applications to open Child NISA accounts on 1 October 2026, and group restructuring is also scheduled to proceed on the same date. Going forward, the group aims to strengthen cooperation across its businesses and provide more convenient products and services.
