「For slow-moving inventory that has been held beyond a specified period and has no customer orders, we reduce the carrying amount on the grounds that it has no profitability. For other merchandise and products, we estimate the likelihood of sale individually and reduce the carrying amount to the estimated recoverable amount. Because estimates of saleability involve uncertainty, further reductions in the estimated recoverable amount due to unforeseeable changes in economic and market conditions could result in additional write-downs in the consolidated financial statements for the following fiscal year.」
For slow-moving inventory, the Company recorded ¥2,534 million subject to estimation and a carrying-value write-down of ¥203 million. It also stated that additional write-downs could arise in the following fiscal year depending on estimates of saleability.
